Dear GYA, As they say, "If you don't play, you can't win," so I've decided that today I'm gonna go out, buy a ticket and win that damned Powerball. Then maybe I'll raise Michael Jackson from the dead, pick a perfect NCAA bracket and maybe, if I have time, I'll help the Cubs win the World Series. Anything else to do today once I win the Powerball? -Kurt Ramshear, Midvale---
Kurt, Considering that everything you've mentioned will never happen, I'll provide you with a few things to do that are actually attainable:
Rapper Abstract Rude will be at The Pickle Factory this evening. The Los Angeles native is currently under Atmosphere's label Rhymesayers Entertainment, and he's also the co-founder of the hip-hop collective Project Blowed, which includes artists like Aceyalone, Myka 9 and producer Fat Jack. The Kleenerz are also on the bill. The show starts at 9.
City Weekly will be showing a free screening of the 1995 rom-com classic Grumpy Old Men at Brewvies. A life-long feud between two neighbors only gets worse when a new female neighbor moves across the street. Check in with The Word before the movie to enter to win appetizers and more from Brewvies! The show starts at 8 p.m.
For some seriously tough nerdcore head-scratchers, head to Lucky 13 for the Big Shiny Geek Show Pub Quiz. There's a reason this quiz night was voted City Weekly's Best of Utah in 2012: It's an unconquerable beast! Hosted by CW's Big Shiny Robot columnist Bryan Young and the Geek Show Podcast's host Shannon Barnson, expect a smattering of questions ranging from Star Wars to politics and everything in between, like Star Wars politics. The quizzin' starts at 8 p.m.
A few more worthwhile events happening today:
- The Gallivan Center Ice Rink will be open from noon to 9 p.m. for skating.
- In Park City, check out Geeks Who Drink Pub Trivia at the Sidecar, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
- Visual artist Scott Blaser's work will be on display at the Patrick Moore Gallery all day today.
