If you're heading to the wine store this week, and looking for some bodacious bubbly to help usher in the New Year with a bang, here is a superb, but inexpensive bottle of domestic sparkling wine: --- one that everyone at your New Year's Eve party will like, and most probably will love.
California's
Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs ($18.99) is the sparkling wine served at every White House reception -- evidence that the Obamas have
a damned good palate for bubbly.
It
features Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and is a fruit-driven, vibrant,
lip-smacking bottle of bubbles, with a gorgeous salmon color and flavors of
raspberry, dark cherry, blackberry, strawberry and cassis.
The
nice thing about this terrific sparkling wine is that it's delicious all by
itself -- perfect for a midnight toast on New Year's Eve -- but it's also quite
versatile: a dry but fruity wine that partners well with a wide range of foods. You could enjoy it with everything from foie gras or steamed lobster to meatloaf and a side of french fries. It's
absolutely stunning with dishes featuring mushrooms or salmon.
I
highly recommend popping the cork on a bottle of Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs
to welcome in 2013.
Happy
New Year!
