Former Brit pop star to host LDS immigration fireside

Former British boy-band star Alex Boye, now a Mormon Tabernacle Choir member, will be leading a fireside Sunday night for the second annual Martin Luther King Jr. service weekend, focusing on immigration. ---
The Utah Democratic Party's official LDS caucus stated in a press release that the "service weekend [...] will share the message of approaching immigration with compassion, fairness and bipartisan solutions."
The fireside will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, in room 1110 of the Spencer Fox Eccles Business building at the University of Utah. It's open to the public.
The weekend is built around a quote from Dr. King that runs, "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now."
Boye, himself an immigrant to this country, will speak about not only immigration but also "his own experiences in traveling and living in a new country, as well as sharing his story of gaining American citizenship," the press release states. He'll also be performing live.
The LDS Dems' activities chair, Trisha Beck, said, "Boye's dedication to using music for its spiritual power as well as its ability to help the downtrodden, as well as his very unique immigration story, make him a perfect fit for this service weekend."
Boye was the lead singer for the boy-band Awesome before moving to Salt Lake City to pursue a career in Christian music.
Additional events this weekend the caucus is holding relating to immigration are on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m to noon. Folks are invited to go to the Guadalupe School, 340 S Goshen St., Salt Lake City "to read stories and provide brunch for 125 underprivileged students and their parents."
