If the name Oscar Quevedo means anything to you, it's probably because you're familiar with his Port wines, for which the Portuguese winemaker is justifiable renowned. However, --- on a whim I recently picked up a bottle of a wine simply called "Oscar's," and was impressed by how much fun was in this inexpensive $10 bottle of wine.

Along with his Port, Oscar Quevedo makes a couple of budget wines from the Douro winemaking region of Portugal: Oscar's White and Oscar's Red. Each sells in Utah for $9.99.

Oscar's White Wine 2011 is a blend of 55% Viosinho, 35% Rabigato and 10% Gouveio. The Viosinho gives this crisp white wine good acidity, white Rabigato lends the wine vegetal notes and some mineral character. Apple and pear flavors dominate the wine, which also give off subtle floral aromas. It was delicious with duxelles-stuffed piquillo peppers and chevre-cream sauce.

Oscar Quevedo is a bit of a social media freak, and markets his wines via Facebook, Twitter, etc. So, if you're interested in learning more about Oscar and his wines, I suggest plugging into the Interweb.
