If you’re interested in learning more about a company's plan to strip-mine tar sands out of some of Utah's pristine backcountry, adjacent to the famed Book Cliffs, then you won’t want to miss a volunteer orientation and work party Wednesday, put on by Peaceful Uprising.---
While a Canadian company has been approved by state regulators to begin mining tar sands in the wilderness area around south-central Utah, the company has yet to raise the capital to begin digging. Meanwhile, activists like Peace Up and the Utah Tar Sands Resistance are raising awareness and building a community of resistance. If this is an issue you’d like to help out with, you can come learn more at this event, which will repeat monthly, every third Wednesday, as activists spread the word and continue to train new volunteers.
Check it out at the Salt Lake City Library, 210 E. 400 South, Wednesday, July 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
