Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, Everyone says summertime is the time to have fun in the sun, but you know what? I can't take the sweltering heat anymore. It's so damned hot that I'm miserable. I'm breaking a sweat walking to my mail box. I'm burning my buns every time I get in my car. So, I'm thinking of headin' out of town to escape the heat, but before I leave ,is there anything going on this weekend that could make me postpone my trip? --Gus Jensen, South Jordan---
Gus, I am right there with you, pal. Not too long ago, I found myself spending my days cozying up to the AC, watching Netflix and eating Popsicles. I've since changed my ways because what you have to realize is that every summer day is precious. Before you know it, it's winter again and we're complaining about that, too. I assure you, there are plenty of reasons to stay in town this weekend:
It's obvious you seem frustrated, so catch some laughs at Wiseguys: Trolly Square. Comedian Marcus, a Utah native, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m and tickets are $15 each.
Head inside and see White Buffalo perform at the State Room. Their country-folk songs will remind you of summertime, while you enjoy the wonders of central air. The show starts at 9 p.m. and admission is $18.
And if country isn't your thing, you might want to see Swanky Tunes perform at Park City Live. Their electronic-techno beats are sure to get you moving, but you won't break a sweat while you do it. The show starts at 8 p.m.; admission is $20 and up.
Since it's too hot to go outside during the day, enjoy the benefits of the outdoors at night and catch a Movie Under The Stars at the Utah State Capitol. Wreck it Ralph will be showing at dusk and, best of all, admission is free. Bonus, local band Matt and Kristo will perform before the show.
If you're still dead-set on staying indoors (central air is amazing, I understand), check out The Complete Works of Shakespeare at Ziegfeld Theater. Three guys cover 37 Shakespeare plays in just two hours, and yes, of course, it's abridged. Curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. and tickets start at $12.
Saturday's Events
I know the heat is unbearable, but to get in the summer spirit, check out Summer Jam at Gallivan Center. I mean, it has summer in the title, and there you can catch hip-hop artists Tyga, A$AP ROCKY, DJ Felli Fel, all in one day. The show gets started at 4 p.m. and admission starts at $25.
The heat has you all worked up, and when you're angry nothing makes you happier than seeing stuff get destroyed. So, head to the Demolition Derby at the Wasatch County Center. The derby gets going at 6 p.m. and tickets start at $15.
Get your football fix in while staying inside and watch the Blaze take on the Cleveland Gladiators at the Energy Solutions Arena. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and tickets start at $10.
Country crooner Jason Aldean will be performing at Rio Tinto Stadium. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $27 and up. Bring a mini fan to stay cool.
Interested in something a little more posh and ... inside? Get a lesson in wine at the Fox School of Wine at Silver Baron Lodge. The lesson is $25 and drinking starts at 6 p.m., but be sure to first make a reservation.
Sunday Events
Still seeking some inside enjoyment? See the one-man rock & roll band Bob Log III perform at Urban Lounge. Tickets are $10 and the doors open at 9 p.m. Beard of Solitude opens the show.
If you've been cooped up inside, I'm guessing you haven't seen Evita at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. Well, not to worry, you can still catch the last performance. The tickets start at $39 and the curtain goes up at 6 p.m.
