Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, Well, the inevitable finally happened, the Mt.Gox Bitcoin exchange filed for bankruptcy and now $425 million of everyone's make-believe money is gone. I guess it's just hard to believe that a completely unregulated currency stewarded by Libertarians and Magic: The Gathering players could ever collapse. Anything happening this weekend now that all my Bitcoin is gone? -Darth Anonymous, Midvale---  

Darth, relax. Bitcoin will come around and if it doesn't, start investing in Dogecoin. Here's what's happening this weekend, starting with Friday's events: 

The City Weekly CWMA Local band showcase will be going down at The Complex tonight. Come vote for who should be this year's City Weekly Band of The Year. Bands include Hollering Pines, Polytype, The Circulars, Drew Danburry and Mideau. The music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6. 

Urban Lounge will be hosting SLUG Magazine's 25th Anniversary party, featuring local bands Makingfuck, The Obliterate Plague and Visigoth. Doors are at 9 p.m. Admission is free. 

Actor and comedian Jay Reid will be onstage at Wiseguys West Valley this evening. There are performances a 7:30 p.m. and a 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.  

Comedian and pudding-pop enthusiast Bill Cosby will be at Kingsbury Hall tonight. Tickets start at $42.50. The show starts at 8 p.m. 

Funk and soul artist Mimi Knowles will be at Velour tonight. Better Taste Bureau and Vibrant Sound are also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Rock band Hopeless Jack and The Handsome Devil will be at The Garage On Beck. Tickets are $5. The show starts at 8 p.m. 


Saturday's events:  

The City Weekly CWMA Rap Showcase will be going down at The Complex tonight with performances by Malevolent MC, Playboi Short, Dumb Luck, Dine Krew, Burnell Washburn, KIS.B, DopeThought, Better Taste Bureau, Pat Maine and Atheist. Vote for you think should win City Weekly's Rapper of The Year! The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6. 

Local band The Fission Breakers will be at Kilby Court tonight. The Baker Street Blues Band, The Dharma Blues and  Candid Coyote are also performing. Tickets are $6. The show starts at 7 p.m. 

Pianist Moonface will be at The State Room this evening. The show starts at 9 p.m. tickets are $20.  

Rappers Grouch and Eligh will be on the mic at Urban Lounge tonight.  DJ Juggy, DJ Fresh, Madchild and Pigeon John will warm things up. Stick around for a dance party with DJ Matty Mo. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. 

Over at Barbary Coast the monthly hip-hop showcase Mic Check will be going down. Artists include Street Jesus, G-Life, Big Mic-E & Young Maez MC Pigpen Gryzzlee Beats Cig Burna and Once the Lion. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5. 

The Far East Movement will be at The Depot tonight. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $21.


Sunday's events:  

Bourbon House will be hosting Funk and Soul Night with DJ Street Jesus. The music starts at 9 p.m. Admission is free.  

The Broadway hit Bring It On: The Musical will be going down at Capitol Theatre today at 1 p.m.  Tickets start at $30.

The three-piece instrumental rock band Russian Circles will be at Urban Lounge this evening.  Ken Mode and Arma are also on the bill. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $14.
