Hey kids, let's beat the heat together this weekend with a slew of nifty tunes for you to indulge in, along with the ice cream or popsicles you're no undoubtedly eating. We'll start with the hottest of the hot releases, the latest from Baby Ghosts. The pop-punk Provo foursome have been on an awesome run since debuting about 3 1/2 years ago. They started with some singles and random performances, and then released one of the best albums of 2011, and have a loyal fanbase that follow them like stalkers. And that's not to mention they were playing awesome live shows and gaining all this exposure before half the band was 21. The last time we heard from Baby Ghosts was March 2013, when they put out Ghost In A Vacuum 7”, and now they're back with their impressive sophomore album, Maybe Ghosts. You can buy it digitally for $7 on Bandcamp, or pre-order the vinyl, which will be released Aug. 15.


While we're in Provo, let's look at a few more releases coming out of the city and move on to Present As Lord. This is an indie electro-pop project comprised of longtime musicians Drew Danburry and Eric Robertson. You can definitely hear the influences both musicians bring to the table, and they seem to compliment each other well. This really isn't a long-term project, just a quick collaboration to create some summer dance tunes. You can download the Famous EP off their Bandcamp for whatever you'd like to pay.


Speaking of Eric Robertson, that's not the only one-off project he's involved in. He also put together another project with singer Stephanie Mabey, called Pixel Pony, to make their own indie-pop EP called Endless Summer. This is a much more pop-oriented album with a great focus on Mabey's vocals. You can also snag this one for whatever you'd like to pay on Bandcamp.


Since we're down south, let's head to the deep south of Utah and check out a St. George band by the name of Heavy H2O. It was hard to find info on this group as they barely made a Facebook page earlier in the week and have are using aliases, but this is a pretty decent blues-rock band who clearly have the chops to pump out heavy tunes. Their debut EP, NSA Approved, is available on Bandcamp for $3.


While we're talking rock, we'll bounce back up to SLC for the debut album from No Safe Way Home. This is a badass melodic hardcore group that formed in late 2013/early 2014, comprised of Jeff Leifson, Spencer Bailey, Ryan Monk, Ryan O'Reilly and Jordan Beeson. They've slowly been gaining a following with their live shows, at The Loading Dock and during some trips to Idaho. Their debut EP, Anabasis, came out this past Sunday through all the major shops like iTunes, but you can download it for a mere $6 at their Bandcamp.


Getting into instrumental hip-hop music, we have the debut album from SoulChief. That name might sound familiar, as the Ogden-based producer has been making beats for over four years now. He's mainly been a behind-the-scenes kind of producer, but his work is solid. Beat Tape Volume 1 marks his first official solo album, which is made up entirely of instrumental beats that are pretty dope and could easily be incorporated into anything a savvy emcee could create. For a more familiar name out of Ogden, today we have what are essentially new albums from Task & Linus. The hip-hop duo were really busy a couple years ago, but side projects and work on other people's albums have put a stay on future work for the moment. This week, Linus Stubbs released the instrumental versions of all three of their albums from 2009 to 2012, and there are some awesome beats to be had on here. I highly suggest these as music for whatever barbecue you might be holding in the near future. You can download them all for whatever you'd like to pay on Bandcamp.


And finally, that brings us to the lone release show this week from SLC band The Glass House. This is a five-piece metal band that's been rocking around northern Utah since 2011, with most of the members being under 21 and hanging strong at shows with longtime metal bands. Their self-titled EP dropped in June 2012, followed up by their second EP, Dead Weight, exactly one year later. The third EP, Weak Minded, is being released tonight, and you can pick up a copy at their release show happening at the Murray Theater. The Glass House will be playing with Constellations, No Safe Way Home, Descend The Empyre and Ten Plagues; tickets are just $10 and the show kicks off at 7 p.m.
