Hello to all you heatwave-beating, popsicle-eating, BBQ-grilling, party-crashing, drink-mixing, what-the-hell-are-we-wasting-our-summer-on enthusiasts! I don't know how it is for those of you reading, but for me I'm seeing tons of posts from one of two typed of people. Those who are in San Diego for comic con, and those who are stuck here bitching about the 90 degree temperatures. Of course, it might be as hot with parts of the city on fire. As I write this, I heard my fifth firetruck whiz down the street. Seriously you idiots, knock it off with the uncontrollable fireworks! Before we get to events, here's the latest addition to the 337 Memorial Wall.

The next two weeks worth of events are mostly concerts and traveling standup shows. So much so that three of the events we're highlighting are technically concerts with other stuff happening around them, and there isn't much. Remember the days when people were throwing random art shows on a Tuesday for no good reason? We need to get back to doing more of that. The small list of highlights starts with Spy Hop's Heatwave Festival being held up at Red Butte Gardens on July 31, featuring samplings of the finest works the program has to offer, in a place surrounded by lovely sights. Oh, and it's absolutely free to attend, which is a nice change for pace for shows at Red Butte.

On Friday, August 1, its the next installment of the Rooftop Concert Series, featuring Can't Stop Won't Stop, House Of Lewis and Mimi Knowles. Yes another absolutely free concert in the heart of Provo, which honestly kids, isn't too hard to get to now due to Frontrunner, so you have no excuse not to go check it out, if not tonight then at least once this summer before they end.

Continuing our free-theme, the Brown Bag Concert Series will launch their 2014 program on August 4. If you're in the downtown area and are looking for a place to enjoy your lunch and get some free live music, this is the series for you as they'll be showcasing a new local band everyday throughout August. Checked out the calendar below for a complete set of listings and locations.

And then finally, one I can't talk much on because of a small conflict of interest, but I'm gonna bring it up briefly because it too is free, Craft Lake City will take over Gallivan Plaza from August 8-9. Check out their website for more details.

As for the blog, we're gonna talk slam poetry, some personal care products, chat with a standup comedian, look into a co-op on the move, talk with an awesome illustrator and get our spirits on in another distillery. At least, that's the plan for now; as always, we'll see what happens.
