Is "Peaches" the best fruit-related song of all time? Eh, maybe.
The Presidents of The United States of America are playing tonight

Dear GYA, I guess "Cherry Pie" by Warrant counts and there's also The Beatles "Strawberry Fields" and I suppose "Tangerine" by Led Zepplin is solid, but I think the all-time best song about fruit has to be "Peaches" by The Presidents of the United States of America. I think it provides a solid narrative about how much those guys loved peaches. - Paul Gurm, Midvale
Paul, you're dead wrong, buddy. Even though cantaloupes are disgusting, Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island" is the best fruit song ever. Here's what's going down this weekend:
Friday's events:
The '90s alt-punk band The Presidents of the United States of America will be at The Depot tonight. July Talk is also performing. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22.
Reggae band Rebelution will be at The Great Saltair this evening. Iration, The Green and Stick Figure are also on the bill. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30.
The indie-pop band Black Kids will be at Urban Lounge. Local acts The Circulars and High Counsel will also perform. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8.
The Granary District is back with a Two Night Block Party going down this evening and tomorrow evening. Expect an open-air biergarten, food trucks, specialty retailers, live local music, and a bounce house for the kids. The parties start at 6 p.m.
Saturday's events:
The State Room will be hosting a farewell party for former City Weekly music lover Dan Nailen featuring the music of local band Bronco. The show starts at 9 p.m. RSVP here.
For all things belly dancing, check out the Summer Dance Festival: Rise of The Phoenix at the Viridian Event Center. The dancing starts at 3 p.m. Admission is free!
The Folk and Bluegrass Festival will be going down at The Gallivan Center starting at 5 p.m.
Rappers Celph Titled, Apathy and Reef the Lost Cauze will be at the Lof-Fi Cafe tonight. SMG's, Melvin Junko, Pure Pressure, Joey and Jare and DJ Battleship will warm it up. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18.
Local bands Max Pain and the Groovies, The North Valley and Beachmen will be at Urban Lounge. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6.
Sunday's events:
Strand of Oaks will be at Kilby Court tonight. Christopher Denny is also on the bill. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Alt-rockers Temple and Nora Dates will be at The Shred Shed. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6.
The English Beat and DJ Dubmatix will be at Urban Lounge. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.
