Movie Reviews: Furious 7, The Hunting Ground

Free-falling cars, Iranian vampires and two very different documentaries are new in Utah theaters this week.
Scott Renshaw applauds his favorite Fast & Furious series entry in Furious 7 (pictured), a likely farewell to the successful action franchise that finds a new director giving a touch of coherence to the preposterous set pieces. Kirby Dick exposes the dangers to women on college campuses—both from sexual predators and from the administrations that fail to do anything about them—in the effectively infuriating documentary The Hunting Ground. Actor Ethan Hawke makes a great first foray into documentary filmmaking with Seymour: An Introduction, profiling New York-based pianist and piano teacher Seymour Bernstein. And the brilliant visual style of first-time director Ana Lily Amirpour elevates the moody, black-and-white tale of a female vampire in contemporary Iran in A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
In this week's cinema feature, Scott Renshaw and Danny Bowes spar genially over the positives and negatives of the Fast & Furious movie franchise as a whole.
