Terrible food choices make for good local video series
Whenever someone creates anything funny, there’s always a chance for parody. While there have been a couple different takes on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, none seem as absurd and funny as the Utah spin on it: Comedians In Cars Eating Vegemite.
A simple roasted chicken is one of my very favorite things. I almost always order it when I'm reviewing restaurants, because my feeling is that if a chef can't roast a chicken properly, there's not much hope for the rest of his/her food.
A brief look at events from September 20 to October 3
Hello to all you button-mashing, energy drink-slurping, neck-adjusting, sound-blazing, jump-scaring, fund-raising, doing-something-fun-for-a-good-cause enthusiasts! If you haven't been following my social media over the past few days, as I write this I'm currently taking part in the Entertainment Is Dead 24-hour gaming marathon.
Brand new music from No Sun, Quiet Oaks, Coma Pilot and more.
We got a dozen fall albums to get to, and no time to waste on formalities. Apologies if some of these seem short, but hey, you've got a wide selection of new local music to pick from.
Real-life dramas compete with post-apocalyptic teen action at Utah movie theaters in a full weekend of new releases. Johnny Depp provides a reminder that he's more than gimmicky makeup jobs, playing James "Whitey" Bulger in Black Mass (pictured), but his menacing performance can't quite overcome a limp story of Boston gangsters.
I'm a 1970s girl. Seventies' fashion is very real for me because I got to watch my mom dress up on Thursday nights to go dancing at the Élan, a Philadelphia nightclub in the vein of Studio 54. It was a decade of decay and decadence.
A chat with the show's founders before this evening's performance.
The evening of Sept. 16 saw the launch of Brine, a brand new performance created through the Repertory Dance Theatre "LINK Series" that features an all-original showcase from local dancers. Symmer Andrews, Ashley Creek, Sarah Donohue and Sara Pickett have combined their talents to bring a series of works highlighting the talents of themselves and several highly-skilled performers from around the valley across multiple disciplines for an evening of unique works. Today, we chat with three of the four dancers behind the evening to talk about the show, which you can still catch tonight (Sept. 17) at the Rose Wagner.
In a Salt Lake City mayoral contest pitting a pair of Democrats who are both former state legislators against each other, it might be difficult for the average voter who doesn’t follow the heartbeat of breaking news to discern the differences. Of course, Mayor Ralph Becker, seeking his third term in office, is a male.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, Boulevard Bistro (1414 S. Foothill Drive) will host a five-course Fall Wine Dinner, including one of my favorite guilty pleasures: Rosa Regale Brachetto. Dinner kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a cheese and meat plate paired with Albrecht Cremant d'Alsace NV, followed by a root-vegetable salad with sweet-basil vinaigrette and shaved Pecorino plus Archery Summit Vireton Pinot Gris 2013.
