Theme emerges in picking of longtime S.L. County employees
Barely two weeks after Jeff Niermeyer left the City of Salt Lake as director of Public Utilities, Mayor Jackie Biskupski appointed longtime Salt Lake County employee Mike Reberg to take the post. For the past two years, Reberg has worked as division director of Salt Lake County Animal Services—his second stint at the county in the past two decades.
Clean air advocates plan to picket a gathering of home builders tonight at the Utah Home Builders’ Association’s Denim & Diamonds Gala at Trolley Square. The gathering, led by environmental groups Utah Moms for Clean Air, HEAL Utah and Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment, was sparked by opposition from the Utah Homebuilders’ Association to legislation that would require installation of efficient hot water heaters and improved statewide building standards.
Seeking out the Provo studio for independent musicians.
With Provo continuing to boom with music, we're seeing many different kinds of musicians and bands come out of the area, with varying levels of resources. Some people can afford to go all-out and put tons of time and effort into their records, while others are working with a shoestring budget, and need to get the most out of their money.
I think probably the biggest bang-for-the-buck wine I tasted in the past year was Mezzocorona Anterra Chardonnay delle Venezie IGT, Italy, priced at (and this isn’t a typo): $5.99. It’s a new product that isn’t easy to find in the U.S., however we’re lucky to have it here in Utah on a trial basis.
A brief preview of the latest gallery to open in St. George.
There's a brand new gallery opening tonight in the heart of St. George, as dozens of artists will be part of the inaugural exhibition at Arrowhead Gallery ETC. Taking over the space where the Arrowhead Department Store used to call home and The Electric Theatre once housed live concerts, the new gallery will showcase Southern Utah Art Guild artists of multiple disciplines from around the Southern Utah area. Today we briefly chat with Jo Ann Merrill, one of the members of the Guild, about the new space and who will be on display.
Flurry of unreleased videos appear, one showing officer was right, DA says
In a reaffirmation of his initial decision, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill on Tuesday said the fatal police shooting in January 2015 of a snow-shovel wielding man in the Avenues neighborhood was a justified use of lethal force. Gill determined in February 2015 that Salt Lake City Police officer Matthew Taylor was justified in using deadly force during an altercation with James Barker, who had been going door-to-door offering to shovel driveways.
Chatting with the three band's from this past Friday's Kilby Court show.
It's almost become a tradition—and at times, a punishing one—to cover shows at Kilby Court in the winter. Don't get me wrong: I love Kilby, its atmosphere and everything it is and stands for as an all-ages venue.
What began with much saber-rattling by Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams in a late Spring 2015 press conference ended with a judicial whimper on Jan. 11, 2016 when McAdams' former campaign manager Justin Miller received a sentence of probation for stealing campaign funds. Miller appeared before Third District Court Judge Randall Skanchy to hear his sentence on one count of communications fraud, a second-degree felony.
I really love Italian-style meatballs. But if you're looking to cut down on the fat in most traditional meatballs, here's a relatively low-fat alternative, using turkey in the place of beef and/or pork.
