Crooked Teeth Studios

Browsing the SLC studio with owner Columbia Jones.
The year is closing out, and with it, many bands are in the process of looking towards 2017 with the hopes of releasing a brand new EP or full-length album.  So, of course, they're looking over the dozens of studios we have in the state to see which one works best for them.

Merry X-Mas From New Shack!

A music video for your holiday weekend.
Well, kids, it's that time of year again. Time for me to hammer out something mildly meaningful on the last holiday of the year.

Local Releases: Tunes For The Holidays

Brand new music from Infinidium, Quiet House, Jesus or Genome and more.
Hey gang! So there are no release shows happening this weekend, for obvious reasons, but rather than stick you with the endless supply of holiday music on FM 100, or listening to the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack until you decide you hate it, we've compiled local albums released in the last week to give you some audio pleasure.

REP SLC

Local representation on clothing by a local music maven
If you live in Salt Lake City and doing everything you can to make the place better in the arts and entertainment communities, chances are you're a little proud of where you live. Sadly, unlike other major metropolitan cities, we don't have a ton of ways to show off local pride.

Movie Reviews: Passengers, Assassin's Creed, Sing, Jackie, Why Him?, Fences, Lion

The busy Christmas movie week brings a mix of would-be Oscar contenders and crowd-pleasers, representing nearly every possible genre. The science-fiction romance Passengers  (pictured) opens with a strong concept, before collapsing in a conclusion that's morally indefensible.

The Pipeline: Adventuring Grid By Grid In Super Dungeon Tactics

Dungeon crawling on squares from Underbite Games.
As you can tell from my review last week, I'm a D&D fan. So, of course, my heart is a bit torn when I see so many D&D licensed games over the years either tank or fail to meet expectations.

Bison Bison Candy Shop

A look into the artwork from the SLC mini-shop.
It's always nice to see small pop-up shops, in whatever form they may take around the city. Increasingly, these shops are online-only destinations, offering a small array of unique items for a limited time.

Bears Ears Update

State leaders announce joint opposition to monument designation.
At the Utah State Capitol, a host of Utah luminaries spoke out against a possible Bears Ears National Monument, and with it a sweeping 1.9 million acre of protection.

"This Matters"

Among protests, Lt. Gov. convenes meeting with Utah's six presidential electors.
Third-graders at the Utah State Capitol probably didn’t catch the announcement that Utah electors voted Mike Pence for vice president. That’s because moments before, Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox declared the news that Utah’s six electors had unanimously cast their presidential votes for Donald Trump, setting off a sustained cacophony of boos.

The Pipeline: Getting Lost In The Maize

Searching for a new puzzler that will occupy my time.
Exploration puzzle games have always fascinated me—and also been the bane of my existence as a gamer. It's really cool exploring a new place and figuring out the challenges within, but for most, there always comes one puzzle that confuses the hell out of you, and suddenly three hours later you've explored everything you can and still don't know what square-shaped object to put into the mysterious keyhole that will lead you to another set of puzzles.
