The indie dramedy Growing Up Smith gets a case of tonal confusion trying to examine the challenges of a young Indian-American immigrant in 1970s Oklahoma. The Sundance 2016 action-thriller Sleight comes to theaters with a great central character in search of a narrative more concerned with being good than with being awesome.
