Beyond Essentials 9/20 - 9/27

That nip of fall in the air should remind you that arts events are plentiful enough that you might need to look Beyond Essentials.
While Odyssey Dance's annual Halloween-themed production Thriller (pictured) won't hit Kingsbury Hall until October, you can get a head start on the fun with the first run of shows at Park City's Egyptian Theater (328 Main Street, Park City, 435-649-9371) Sept. 22-Oct. 8. Tickets are $28-$44; purchase online here.
Wasatch Theatre Co. presents Neil Simon's 1974 play God's Favorite, a comedy loosely based on the Book of Job about a successful businessman facing tests of his faith. Shows run Sept. 22-Oct. 8, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission; purchase here.
As part of its ongoing "Art House Theater Week," Salt Lake Film Society presents several special screenings and accompanying discussions at the Tower Theatre (876 E. 900 South). On Friday, Sept. 22, 8 p.m. local filmmaker Trent Harris premieres his new feature Welcome to the Rubber Room, with a cast and crew red carpet at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., the documentary Looking for David about the life and legacy of local actor David Ross Fetzer gets a regional premiere, including a post-film Q&A with filmmakers. And on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m., a restored version of acclaimed documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman's 1967 classic Titticut Follies includes an on-screen conversation with Wiseman and filmmaker Wes Anderson. YouTube star Rachel Ballinger headlines a special matinee show inspired by her recent book 101 Things That Piss Me Off at Wiseguys Downtown (194 S. 400 West, 801-532-5233), Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $22.
There's time for one more cultural festival before the weather turns wintry, as the Spanish Fork Krishna Temple (311 W. 8500 South, Spanish Fork) hosts the annual India Fest, Sept. 23, beginning at 5 p.m. Enjoy food, musical entertainment, henna painting, Ramayana pageant and closing fireworks spectacular. Admission is only $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12.
