Double Take

Sweet jams, rainbow merch and Pete Buttigieg’s excellent oration skills were on display during the presidential hopeful's SLC visit.
While the crowd waited and waited for Buttigieg to show (note to those new to politics that aren’t made-for-TV: these things NEVER start on time), they heard tunes with titles perfectly curated for his campaign stop.

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn **1/2 t’s possible for a movie to have a lot of interesting ideas, and still be a sloppy, haphazard delivery system for those ideas. This sort-of-sequel/sort-of-spinoff of 2016’s Suicide Squad finds Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) broken up with Joker and now with a target on her back.

Relic *** [Midnight]It was fascinating to realize not just that one of Sundance 2020’s recurring themes was dealing with the escalating dementia of an elder parent, but the range of approaches a filmmaker could take to that subject: in Dick Johnson is Dead as gallows humor, in The Father as psychological drama, and here as body horror.
