Ideal Horizon: “Take Away” out now
Alt-rockers Ideal Horizon are back with their second single of the year “Take Away.” The band hopped on the scene earlier this year, and debuted their first single “The Day” back in July.

After Death *1/2
I’m not remotely interested in litigating the plausibility of scientific evidence demonstrating the existence of an afterlife—and, despite initial assurances to the contrary, neither is this ostensible documentary. Directors Stephen Gray and Chris Radtke do interview plenty of clinicians in a variety of fields, addressing studies that have been conducted surrounding patients’ recollections of near-death experiences, brain-wave activity before and after clinical death, and the like.
Killers of the Flower Moon, Nyad, The Pigeon Tunnel, Dicks: The Musical
Dicks: The Musical **1/2
There’s a thin line between a movie that’s idiosyncratically weird, and one that feels designed to play midnight screenings—and it’s a line that Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp trample into a paste in the film adaptation of their short play. Jackson and Sharp play Trevor and Craig, two proudly heterosexual alpha-dog salesmen who realize that they are identical twins separated at birth, and subsequently concoct a decidedly Parent Trap-esque plan to reunite their mother (Megan Mullaly) and father (Nathan Lane).
The Burial **
The formula for the cinematic courtroom drama isn’t particularly hard to pull off—as Barton Fink’s Jack Lipnick might put it, “Whaddaya need, a road map?”—but this fact-based story over-complicates things to the point where its simple crowd-pleasing elements get lost.

The Exorcist: Believer **1/2
Co-writer/director David Gordon Green’s latest attempt at a horror reboot—following his Halloween legacy-quel trilogy—presents such an audacious, thoughtful basic premise that it’s deeply annoying when he loses it in the midst of providing franchise callbacks. In a Georgia suburb, 13-year-old Angela (Lidya Jewett) and her friend Katherine (Olivia O’Neill) disappear into the nearby woods to attempt a summoning of Angela’s deceased mom, and return three days later both carrying some demonic baggage.
