Thom Darling: New single “Take it All Back!” out now
Many musicians have multiple bands/projects they perform in. Such is the case with Thom Darling, who you’ve probably seen performing in the duo Darling and Debonair. If you like the duo’s work, hopping over to Darling’s solo music is a great way to find more tunes you’ll most likely enjoy. If you haven’t listened to any Darling and Debonair, go straight there after listening to this new single. “Take it All Back!” is a creative combo of electronic elements and acoustic awesomeness. “To my ear, it sounds like the mid-’00s dance-y pop of Tom Vek mixed with some of the wizardry of famous Dub producers like King Tubby,” Darling said. “The combination results in a nostalgic pop tune that reminds me of growing up listening to MTV2 Subterranean and discovering I like drum machines and boom-bap. Lyrically, the song tells the story of a woman in an abusive relationship who has to take matters into her own hands to take her life back.” The song is steeped in a familiarity, especially if you listened to pop tracks in the early aughts. At the same time, it’s fresh and new; Darling’s voice is strong, yet fun, and it’s a great song to listen to when you feel like you need to take some power back in your life. “Take it All Back!” is streaming everywhere now.

Whisperhawk, L’il Feathers @ The City Library 11/4
November is Native American Heritage month, so it’s the perfect time to get out and support your favorite Native musicians and performers. You’ll be able to catch L’il Feathers, Granite School District’s youth Powwow group showcasing their skills, as well as a performance by singer/songwriter Whisperhawk, who just released a brand-new collection of music dedicated to the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. He wanted to give a shout out to his Native brothers and sisters and share his perspective on indigenous issues and politics. If you’re interested in learning a little more about tribes local to the area, this is a great place to start. This is an all-ages free event that you can go to on Saturday, Nov 4 from 2-4 p.m. For more information head to events.slcpl.org.
