2024 Wrap-up
Next week, the Music section will include reflections from local artists on their 2024. Here are a few more of those thoughts.
Eldersister: “I would say that my highlight for this year was definitely our record-release show that we had in July at the Blues Katz Bar in St. George. We didn’t think anyone would come, but it was so well-attended. The amazingly talented Sammy Brue came down to open for it, along with one of our favorite local bands, Whiskeytooth Revival. We just weren’t expecting that much support, and it felt like the biggest, warmest embrace from a community that is just barely waking up after a seemingly long time without a thriving music scene. This whole year has felt like a re-awakening in a lot of ways, and it’s been really fun to watch and be a part of.”
David Lindes: “A huge highlight for me was a trip I took this summer to my native Guatemala, where I filmed my first two music videos. One of them has already been released. It’s for my song ‘Te vengo a perdonar,’ (I’ve come here to forgive you) and it uses the symbol of death to talk about forgiveness. Filming it was magic for me on so many fronts, but the biggest one was filming the morgue scene in the abandoned kitchen of a house that reminded me of the one I grew up in. I was just run over with nostalgia, and with gratitude for the path life has taken me on.”
Eyes of Eva: “Our highlight of 2024 as a band definitely had to be writing and recording Memento Mori and Memento Vivere. Every time we go to Rigby Road Studios and record with Jordan Clark we always make magic! It’s been awesome watching the growth and progression of all of us as a band as we went into the studio and wrote these new songs! We can’t wait to see what next year holds for us!”
