Sen. Bob Bennett has lost in the second round of voting at the state GOP convention.---
Bennett's votes barely nudged after the first round, while Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee seemingly split the votes from other candidates. The second round results: Bridgewater 37 percent, Mike Lee 36 percent, Bennett 27 percent.
In a tearful statement following the results, Bennett said: "The political atmosphere has been toxic. It's clear that some of the votes I cast added to that toxic atmosphere."
The convention now heads to a third round of balloting. If either can get 60 percent, they are the nominee. But one of them would have to get almost all of Bennett's votes. If that happened, it would be Bridgewater, although a primary is easily the most likely outcome.
