nn“Officers responded to a burglary in progress call. Neighbors of this address saw a car backed into the driveway and strangers loading stuff into the back of the car. When officers arrived, they found a trunk full of marijuana plants and more plants in the back yard. The resident was involved in a domestic violence situation and her spouse is currently in jail. The resident decided it was a good time to get rid of her spouse’s marijuana crop and called some friends who wanted the plants. … The friends, [a 25-year-old male], who had a loaded pistol in his waistband, and [a 24-year-old male] were booked for possession and cultivation of the controlled substance. [The 25-year-old suspect] was also charged with the concealed weapon and restricted person with a firearm.nn

nn“The victims were walking at this location to do the morning news shot with a local news channel. A black SUV drove up and inside the vehicle were four male Polynesians. One male Polynesian exited the vehicle. He was wearing a white hoodie and approached one of the victims and began punching him. The second victim started walking away and then the other three Polynesians chased him down and assaulted him as well. The suspects took the victims’ money and then left westbound in the black SUV. The Polynesian suspects were thought to be 20-30 years of age.nn

nn“The victim called an acquaintance and arranged for the acquaintance to pick him up and take him to a bar. When the acquaintance arrived, there was another individual with him. The victim was sitting on the porch and the acquaintance produced a gun and demanded the victim’s wallet. Failing to get a wallet, they took the victim’s cell phone. Both suspects were last seen heading towards Liberty Park. The acquaintance is described as male black adult, 6’3â€, 20s, with a goatee and long sideburns. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and tan beanie. Suspect No. 2 is a male black adult, 20’s, wearing a white shirt and black baggy jeans.nn
Perhaps these robbers are misunderstood, and simply interpreted their associate’s call for a ride as a cry for help. They would have seized his booze money, yes, but for his own good. Finding none, they stranded their little buddy by absconding with his cell phone so that, for at least one night, he’d be cut off from the drink he so desperately and destructively craved. A jury just might go for it.
