Bourbon House

Karaoke night, underground

I’m not a huge fan of karaoke nights. Not because I know I can’t sing, but because someone always ends up pulverizing a Billy Joel song. For the love of God, leave “Piano Man” alone! Nevertheless, some places do it better than others, like Bourbon House (19 E. 200 South). This downtown watering hole is typically packed during Thursday-night karaoke. People come to this bar for reasons besides the chance to belt out a Top 40 hit, though. If you haven’t had a $4 pickle back—a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey with pickle juice as a chaser—or a jalapeño-bacon-wrapped tater tot, then you need to step into “The River of Dreams.” With live music every Saturday and funk and soul Sundays, Bourbon House is a nice spot for any “Uptown Girl” … or guy.
