Local progressive metal band, Chronic Trigger opened for this trio of metal bands that span the entire country. Their staple brand of grind core mixed with black metal and melodic hardcore is extremely unique. In June,2023 they released the single "Word of Hate," that explains the reality of the counterculture in SLC, a must listen for every metal fan, especially locals.
WoR, North Carolina natives grinded out vocals, guitars, and drums to almost perfection. We sat down for a short interview with vocalist Bobby D. and guitarist Ben Kaiser, (played offensive line for NC State). When asked their opinion about all these new sub genres of metal Bobby D. said, "metal communities are coming together, it's all about a vibe and having a good time. It's all under the same umbrella." Ben Kaiser answered the same question with, "we are a groove metal band, we want to let loose, throw down and have a good time!" Ben added, "maybe we will do a country album someday."
Headliner, The Convalescence, from Toledo, Ohio had a dominating stage presence, combined with body paint and human skeleton like microphone stands. They did not hold back on the theatrics, offering up a fake human torso covered in fake blood then vocalist, Keith Wampler dismembered and threw pieces into the crowd! It was quite the show, reminiscent of GWAR or King Diamond.
Thank you to the Metro Music Hall's staff and management for yet another great metal show!!
