Creative Critter Day

When: Sat., May 9 2015
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) is thrilled to team up with Repertory Dance Theatre's Ring Around the Rose (RDT), KUED PBS Kids, and, for this month only, Women's Ski Jumping USA (WSJ-USA) to present this May's Creative Critter Day, a full day of hands-on activities to keep your youngster entertained and engaged with the arts all day long. Creative Critter Day takes place on the second Saturday of each month inside each separate institution.

RDT's Ring Around the Rose will start the day at 11 AM at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. This month's "wiggle-friendly" program will feature magical charms and musical feats from Hatch Academy of Magic & Music.

After the performance, bask in the May sunshine and enjoy your lunch outside on the plaza at the Gallivan Center. Take the family on a walk throughout downtown Salt Lake and shop through City Creek Center, where out-of-town guests receive an incentive-filled "Passport to Shopping." And check out the final weekend of Downtown Garden Stroll on display along Main Street!

Along with these outdoor festivities, members of the Women's Ski Jumping USA (WSJ-USA) team will be outside UMOCA from 1-4 PM. The event will include a crafts table, food trucks, and an exciting roller ramp where kids can have their picture taken mid-action!

Next, kick back in UMOCA's Creer Auditorum and watch KUED PBS Kids programming, which will screen all day long at the museum. For the month of May, KUED will be featuring everyone's favorite aardvark, Arthur. Episodes will include "Fountain Abbey" based on the favorite "Downton Abbey" and three other fun adventures.

Finally, from 2-4 PM, join UMOCA for Family Art Saturday as arts educators lead families to participate in free, hands-on art-making activities. This month, the educators are working with the Noorda Children's Theatre at Utah Valley University. After the premiere of the theatre's new play, The Milk Dragon, the dragon will come to UMOCA to collect stories about the lost, broken, or banished things in your life, one of the play's rich themes.
