The next generation of Utah artists only needs one thing: your attention. Well, maybe two things: your attention and a little financial support.
This week, the University of Utah Department of Theatre Studio 115 presents two productions in repertory. Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden deals with a one-time political dissident in an unnamed country who encounters the man who tortured her—and decides to exact her own vengeance. The Mercy Seat—by everyone’s favorite acid-tongued ex-Mormon, Neil LaBute—observes a pair of lovers in Manhattan evaluating their relationship and their lives on Sept. 12, 2001. How will young actors interpret these emotionally challenging works? Let’s find out. (Scott Renshaw)
