Building a Green Economy Thursday, Feb. 5

The University of Utah will be capping off its second annual Climate Change Teach-In event with a free panel discussion. The public is invited to pick the brains of local government officials on the future of a clean, green economic machine that could be Utah’s future.

Panelists will include moderator Jason Berry of the state energy program, Ann Ober of the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office and Salt Lake City Councilman Luke Garrott, among others. University of Utah, Tanner Humanities Center room 101, 215 S. Central Campus Drive, Feb. 5, 6-7:30 p.m., 801-585-9352

HEAL Utah Citizen Lobbying Training Day Thursday, Feb. 5

Local greenies HEAL Utah is hosting a training session on how to lobby legislators, in case you missed a similar opportunity last week. The event will include a tour of the Capitol and a look at a slate of environmental issues for this legislative session. Sen. Scott McCoy, D-Salt Lake City, also will give a pep talk on the importance of citizen involvement in lawmaking. Capitol East Building, room 215, 350 N. Delivering Sustainable and Appropriate Solutions to Developing Communities Monday, Feb. 9

Westminster College will be holding a great nuts-and-bolts forum for the idealist looking to learn about helping developing countries in the face of an expected 2 billion people who will be rubbing shoulders with us on this planet of ours in the next 20 years. The guest speaker will be Dr. Bernard Amadei, founder of Engineers without Borders and co-recipient of the 2007 Heinz Environmental Award.
