Still Lively: Junior’s Tavern
Junior’s (30 E. 300 South), one of our favorite downtown bars for a convivial atmosphere, has been a fixture of the Salt Lake City community, in one incarnation or another, since 1974. Like all good neighborhood bars, it attracts a varied crowd. “Hipsters” rub shoulders with salty barflies, while out-of-towners get a dose of downtown charm—all at the same slab of bar wood. There’s one pool table and a few booths, which doesn’t sound like much, but as any regular there will tell you: “It’s all we need.”
Valentine’s Day: W Lounge
Soulville is a place where soul happens. DJs Feral Cat and Colonel Condor will be kicking off another soulful event at the W Lounge (358 S. West Temple) for a special Valentine’s Day night. If you fear being alone on V-Day, don’t fret, because it’s a Lonely Hearts Ball and Lover’s Day Concerto all rolled into one steamy package. The W is one of the most consistently dancey places in town. If you’ve never seen it in action, there’s no better night than Feb. 14 for love and pheromones to fill the air.
Go to the Go Gos: Circle Lounge
The SinrGy GoGo team harbors some of the better dancers in town. If you need some hotties in furry legwarmers and G-strings to gyrate about at an event, they’re your “go-to” go-gos. Somewhere in America’s heartland, or more probably Utah, there is a young girl anxiously practicing her moves to join the elite crew. Good news, young, anxious, practicing go-gos! Tryouts for the latest SinrGy team will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, at Circle Lounge (328 S. State). The tryouts begin at 11 p.m., and it’s recommended that you attend a bit earlier than that. Bring an entertainment résumé, if possible, and show up in your go-go gear.
