With the growing popularity of the home video camera came the rise of the amateur home movie. Furthermore, with the advent and accessibility of the digital camera came afternoons spent toying with loosely scripted movies in back yards and basements throughout the country.

The local film production company Manor Massacre has taken that same enthusiasm for hobby filmmaking and turned it into an obsessive necessity to create films—specifically, those that fall into the horror genre. This year, the filmmakers continue their run with yet another Halloween film, created with next-to-no-money and tons of help from dedicated friends.

The result is MacFisto, a black-and-white thriller set in the 1920s. The film follows an odd gathering of people that is assembled by a mysterious bureaucrat, Mr. MacFisto, who clearly has a dark, hidden agenda for his guests. The film’s premier will be accompanied by live music and a raffle.

Manor Massacre’s MacFisto @ Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m., 801-355-ARTS, ManorMassacre.com
