Gary Mullen was just a Glasgow guy who liked to sing karaoke Queen songs in the local pub until his wife and mother secretly signed him up for Stars in Their Eyes, a U.K. talent show for celebrity impersonators. In 2000, Mullen’s deadon Freddie Mercury won the competition with what still stands as the most votes in the show’s 16-year history.

Nine years later, Mullen and his band The Works re-create the splashy theatricality of a circa- 1986 Queen performance in a two-hour piece of rock performance art. Have you slipped into a time machine back to the heyday of the flamboyant mustachioed frontman? No, it’s just Mullen—who has made a touring career out of deciding that he will, he will rock you.
