One of the first times I heard poet Sara Caldiero-Oertli read, she stepped up to the mic and began without hesitation, “Agina … Bagina … Cagina … Dagina …,” progressing methodically on and on until she reached a crescendo with the big V, then tapering down oh so casually through the final letters of the alphabet.
So it’s no particular wonder that she now returns to the proverbial stage with a new book titled Snatch ‘N’ Sniff: Vagina Poem and Picture Book (see Five Spot). As a board book including poetry interspersed with close-up photographs of vaginas and matching scents—think dominatrix paired with a waft of leather—the reading and signing celebrating the publishing will surely be an affair not to be missed. Just keep in mind that due to the nature of Sara Caldiero-Oertli’s work, no one under the ripe old age of 18 will be admitted.
