Footloose was filmed in Utah, so you might wonder, is a no-dancing attitude prevalent? Nope. Utah’s dance scene has greatly expanded in recent years.

Utah clubs now routinely book A-list DJ talent to pack their floors, including recent headliners Ladytron and DJ Tiesto. If you’re in from out of town, make sure you try the W Lounge (358 S. West Temple, 801-359-0637, MySpace.com/WLounge), as one of the city’s better dancing spots. Here’s a look at other joints in the Salt Lake Valley to dance the night away:

Area 51 is one of the oldest dance clubs in town and caters to a crowd interested in goth, industrial, retro and darker interests. Be sure to dress up for a memorable time. 451 S. 400 West, 801-534-0819, Area51SLC.com
