According to local filmmaker Trent Harris, his friend Alex Caldiero is perhaps the only Mormon Beatnik poet in existence. While hard to prove the claim, that in no way impeded two other filmmakers, Torben Berhard and Travis Low, from making a full-length documentary film about this often larger-than-life—and sometimes enigmatic— wordshaker.
Somehow, Caldiero has remained one of Utah’s most creatively diverse and wildly beloved poets while simultaneously living under the hegemony of Utah County and teaching at Utah Valley University. So to get at the heart and passion driving Caldiero, the duo spent a year filming the mad methods to his creative process and performance art on location in Utah and New York City, even following him to his far-flung birth town of Licodia Eubea in Sicily.
