Though I do have friends in low places, like in that real popular song, I’ll admit I don’t know much about country music. Nevertheless, I somehow found myself at The Westerner (3360 S. Redwood Road, West Valley City) on a recent Saturday. Truth be told, The Westerner is like a cowboy or cowgirl’s Chuck E. Cheese. Every Saturday, this spot showcases local bands while city slickers boot scoot on a 1,500-square-foot dance floor. Best part is, if you don’t know how to line dance, free lessons are offered every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Also, cowboys and cowgirls can take advantage of the $3 drafts, the soundproof karaoke room and, the best-er part of all, the free mechanical bull rides. Apparently, I went the wrong night, because every Friday is Bikini Bull Riding, where ladies can compete for a $200 cash prize. (Photos: Mike Fuchs)
