Ripping down mountain roads by bicycle pushing 60 mph seems masochistic to some—but for professional cyclists, it’s business as usual. Two-wheeling throughout the Salt Lake Valley, over passes and down the Wasatch Range’s mountainsides, Tour of Utah’s peloton returns with more than 144 cyclists from 11 teams for six days of riding frenzy.
The prologue at the Utah Capitol on Aug. 17 kicks things off, followed by five stages—one per day. The short, spectator-friendly criterium in downtown Park City (Stage 2) and time trials at Miller Motorsports Park’s (Stage 3) should excite.
M But, the real deal are the long-distance races. Riders discover why it’s “America’s toughest Y stage race” zig-zagging over mountains in Stage 4 (Thanksgiving Point to Mt. Nebo) and ending with Stage 5 (Park City to Snowbird Resort) on Aug. 21. Join 30,000 spectators lining 300 CY miles of road to spot the yellow jersey and live vicariously through the freedom of two wheels or cheer on your favorite team.
