Though archery suffered a huge blow in clientèle with the invention of the rifle, there are still young William Tells mastering the ancient sport of the bow and arrow. In fact, youth archery has a community of competitors that spans the globe.

Soon, the ablest of these young archers will convene in Ogden to prove their skills. The 2009 Youth Archery World championships will brings together more than 430 of the world’s best young archers along with coaches, family members, and fans. Participants are between the ages of 14-18 and are required to qualify in each of their more than 50 respective countries. The competition serves as a main qualifying event for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Countries participating include Australia, Barbados, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Lebanon, Nigeria, Spain, Venezuela.

It may not be the 2002 Olympics, but, hey, at least it’s something to pluck with your mind.
