New Thai
Sala Thai Kitchen has opened in the space previously occupied by Zanzibar (679 S. 200 West). And you won’t believe the look of the place. Zanzibar was dark and claustrophobic. Sala is just the opposite: light, bright and airy. The owner remodeled from the ground up and the result is terrific. Sala specializes in authentic Thai cuisine, featuring dishes from owner and executive chef Jitrada Dreier’s home in central Thailand. The menu includes items such as mango sticky rice, massaman curry, khao soi, pra lam, curry puffs, pad thai, flank-steak beef salad, Thai iced tea and much more. Bonus: There is plenty of free and easy parking. For additional information and reservations, phone 801-328-2499.
Harmons Supports the Hungry
In 2010, Harmons and its customers donated 368,000 pounds of food to Utah Food Bank and local food pantries. This year, in conjunction with Harmons’ 79th birthday celebration, the family-owned grocer is “pumping up its effort to feed Utah’s hungry.” Harmons is now participating in Utah Food Bank’s Grocery Rescue program to provide “un-sellable” but safe, wholesome food—such as meat, deli items, dairy, produce and seasonal and discontinued products—that have reached their sell-by dates but not yet expired. Harmons is adding this component to its year-long support of Utah Food Bank, and the chain projects that it will donate approximately 500,000 pounds of fresh food through the Fresh Rescue program through the end of 2011. In addition, during August, the public is invited to buy Harmons’ $10 Food for Families bags and drop them in the convenient Utah Food Bank bins at the front of all Harmons’ stores.
